GRAMBLING, La. (AP)—Donald Qualls scored 21 points and Grambling State hit 13 of 14 free throws in the final 1:10 to beat Mississippi Valley State 75-68 on Monday night.
The Tigers (6-14, 4-5 Southwestern Athletic Conference) ended a two-game skid while MVSU (3-19, 3-6) is now 0-16 on the road.
Grambling State led 32-31 at the break as each team hit six 3-pointers in the first half.
After six second-half lead changes, Grambling State took a 50-49 lead. The Tigers built a seven-point cushion with 1:41 left, but the Delta Devils drew within 66-64 on a 3-pointer by Julius Cheeks with 50 seconds remaining.
From that point, Grambling State hit 9 of 10 free throws and finished the game hitting 24 of 33. The Delta Devils made 7 of 9 foul shots.
Jordan Lemons added 17 points for the Tigers and Ariece Perkins had 16.
Shannon Behling led MVSU with 22 points.
