CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP)—Davis Baker scored 23 points as Southern Utah held off a Western Illinois rally to win 66-65 in Summit League play Saturday.
Ceola Clark led Western Illinois (7-15, 4-7 Summit League) with 24 points, including 21 in the second half. David DuBois scored 19 points for the Leathernecks, but missed a 10-footer from left of the key in the closing seconds that would have won the game. Clark got the rebound but missed the put back.
Baker scored Southern Utah’s last field goal with 4:38 to play and David Marek, who finished with 13 points and five assists, scored two free-throws with 3:24 to play. Jake Nielson scored 10 points for Southern Utah.
Clark, went 6-for-8 from 3-point range, and hit three 3-pointers, a layup and two free throws in the final 5:12 of the game, including two 3-pointers in the final two minutes to pull Western Illinois to within one.
