NORFOLK, Va. (AP)—Gerald Lee scored 23 points to lead Old Dominion in a 73-71 win over George Mason on Saturday night.
The Monarchs (13-8, 6-5 Colonial Athletic Association) led by three points at halftime, and by nine less than five minutes into the second, but the Colonials (15-6, 8-3) fought back late. George Mason pulled ahead at 67-66 on Louis Birdsong’s layup with 4:39 left and, after Ben Finney put ODU back up with a lay-in of his own, Cam Long hit a jumper to retake the lead with 3:48 remaining.
George Mason was held scoreless for more than three minutes.
Lee hit two free throws and Frank Hassell knocked down a jumper to put ODU ahead 72-69 with 1:35 left. Marsharee Neely hit a free throw for ODU’s final margin, and Long missed a jumper at the buzzer.
Finney finished with 18 points, while Nelly added 12.
Ryan Pearson led the Colonials with 18 points.
