DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP)—Jason Johnson scored 14 points, including the tying and go-ahead points with 1:07 left, to lift South Carolina State to a 59-51 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday.
Johnson, who also had 14 rebounds, was fouled while hitting a jumper, which tied the score at 51-51. The free throw gave the Bulldogs a 52-51 lead.
Jason Flagler and Carrio Bennett scored 10 points each for the Bulldogs (8-11, 3-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
The Wildcats (11-10, 5-3), who led 25-21 at halftime, increased their margin to nine points with 15:10 to play.
Bennett hit consecutive 3-pointers and Jessie Burton hit a free throw to cut the lead to 50-49. Bethune-Cookman’s C.J. Reed countered with a free throw for a 51-49 advantage.
Johnson followed with his three-point play with 1:07 left.
Reed led the Wildcats with 12 points.
