The Citadel beats Elon 60-58
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP)—Demetrius Nelson scored 17 points to lead The Citadel, and the Bulldogs held Elon without a field goal for the last 3:56 to seal a 60-58 win on Thursday night.
The Citadel (12-10, 7-4 Southern Conference) blew an 11-point second-half lead when Devan Carter’s 3-pointer capped a 17-5 Elon run, giving the Phoenix a 56-55 advantage with just under four minutes to play.
The Phoenix (5-13, 2-8) wouldn’t score again from the floor, and Austin Dahn’s late 3-pointer sealed the win for the Bulldogs.
Dahn finished with 11 points, including going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, and Cameron Wells added 10 for the Bulldogs.
Ola Atoyebi and Brett James scored 15 points apiece to lead the Phoenix.
The Citadel shot 46.2 percent from the floor (24 of 52) in the game compared to just a 35.4-percent mark (17 of 48) for Elon.
