Bethune-Cookman beats Md.-Eastern Shore 58-55
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP)—C.J. Reed scored 20 points and hit a pair of free throws with 5.1 seconds left that clinched Bethune-Cookman’s 58-55 win against Maryland-Eastern Shore on Monday night.
Reed, who hit 8 of 10 from the field, scored 13 of his points in the first half as the Wildcats (11-9, 5-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) got out to 33-25 halftime lead.
The Hawks (5-12, 3-4) tied the game at 55-all with 55 seconds left, but a free throw by Jarrell Thomas put Bethune-Cookman up 56-55. An offensive foul gave the ball back to the Wildcats with 18 seconds left, setting up Reed’s shots.
John Holmes came off the bench to score 12 points and grab four rebounds for Bethune-Cookman.
Keishawn Mayes scored 17 points to lead the Hawks, including 11 straight to start the second half. Marc Davis added 15 points and Jamie Boyer chipped in with 10 for the Hawks.
