JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP)—Mike Smith and Courtney Pigram scored 22 points each to lead East Tennessee State to an 82-72 win over S.C. Upstate on Monday night.
Smith added five rebounds for the Buccaneers (15-5, 9-1 Atlantic Sun Conference), and Kevin Tiggs contributed with 18 points of his own. Pigram shot 13-for-14 from the free-throw line, totaling more trips to the charity stripe than S.C. Upstate’s entire team combined (9-for-13).
The Spartans (4-15, 3-7) held a narrow 36-34 halftime lead. But ETSU broke out on a 15-2 run, which was capped by a layup from Greg Hamlin with 10:52 remaining in the game. The Spartans trailed by double digits for nearly the rest of the second half, getting no closer than eight points.
S.C. Upstate was led by Bobby Davis, who scored 18 points. Nick Schneiders added 16 points and eight rebounds.
