Bethune-Cookman defeats Delaware State 60-56

DOVER, Del. (AP)—C.J. Reed scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half and Bethune-Cookman rallied to defeat Delaware State 60-56 on Saturday.

The Wildcats (10-9, 4-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) won for the first time on the Hornets’ home floor since the 1999-2000 season and denied Delaware State coach Greg Jackson his 300th career win. Jackson won No. 299 on Monday against North Carolina A&T.

The Hornets (4-16, 2-3) led 25-20 at halftime and 36-24 with 16:15 remaining. Bethune-Cookman then used a 16-2 run, capped by Tobias Malone’s jumper, to take a 40-38 lead with 8:47 remaining.

Delaware State pulled within 57-55 with 35 seconds left, but Malone’s layup with 10 seconds remaining and an Alvin Pegues free throw sealed the win.

Alexander Starling added 10 rebounds for the Wildcats.

Marcus Neal and Arturo Dubois scored 18 points apiece for the Hornets.
