Coppin State edges Hampton 61-60
BALTIMORE (AP)—Vince Goldsberry hit a jumper with 2.8 seconds remaining in the game to lift Coppin State to a 61-60 victory over Hampton on Saturday.
The Eagles (4-15, 2-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) trailed 60-59, but Hampton’s Mike Buckley missed a 3-point attempt, which was rebounded by Coppin State’s Lenny Young with 7 seconds left.
Young’s layup attempt was blocked by Theo Smalling, but the ball went to Goldsberry, who hit the game winner for his only points of the game.
There were 11 ties and 18 lead changes in the game.
Hampton (9-9, 3-2), which had won two straight games, was only 9 of 17 from the free-throw line (52.9 percent). The Eagles were 10 of 12 from the line (83.3 percent).
Michael Harper led Coppin State with 22 points, Tywain McKee added 18 and Sam Coleman had 12 points.
Vincent Simpson led Hampton with 10 points.
