DETROIT (AP)—Robo Kreps scored 21 points Thursday and made a critical defensive play to help Illinois-Chicago hold off Detroit 65-61.

The Titans trailed 63-61 and had the ball in the final seconds, but Kreps forced a steal near halfcourt and got the ball to Josh Mayo, who scored the insurance basket as time expired. The Flames (10-8, 3-5 Horizon) led 62-54 with 1:18 but Detroit embarked on a 7-1 run to give itself a chance.

Mayo finished with 15 points and Tori Boyd added 10 for Illinois-Chicago, which has won two of its last three.

Woody Payne (five steals) and Thomas Kennedy each scored 13 for the Titans (4-13, 0-8), who lost their sixth straight and remained winless in 2009.
