KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)—Dane Brumagin scored 19 points and Spencer Johnson added 16 as Missouri-Kansas City edged South Dakota State 69-67 on Thursday night.
Reggie Hamilton scored the last seven points for the Kangaroos (6-13, 2-4 Summit League) and finished with 15 as UMKC broke a five-game losing streak.
South Dakota State (3-4, 8-11) got 22 points apiece from Clint Sargent and Garrett Callahan. Kai Williams grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds for the Jackrabbits.
UMKC made the final score stand up late in the game when Sargent barely missed a 3-pointer with seven seconds left and Williams missed a point-blank follow shot with one second remaining.
The game was close throughout, with nine ties and 10 lead changes.
Johnson and Latreze Mushatt led UMKC on the boards with six rebounds each.
