RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP)—Josh Jenkins scored 12 second-half points as Cal State Northridge rallied to defeat UC Riverside 64-56 Wednesday.
Northridge, playing its first game since the arrest of leading scorer Deon Tresvant in an electronics store burglary, came back from a 12-point second-half deficit to win.
The Matadors (6-8, 3-1 Big West) held Riverside (9-7, 2-3) to two field goals in the final 14 minutes as the Highlanders shot 25 percent in the second half. Brandon Dowdy?s 3-pointer with 14:20 left gave Riverside its biggest lead at 48-36.
Jenkins pushed Northridge to its first lead at 54-53 on a steal and layup with 5:52 remaining. The senior guard then hit 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch.
Riverside guard Javon Borum led all scorers with 15 points. The Highlanders dropped their third straight after opening conference play with two wins.
Rob Haynes led Northridge with 14 points. Jenkins finished with 13.
