MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP)—Demetrius Green hit a 3-pointer with 38 seconds left to help Middle Tennessee State remain undefeated in the Sun Belt Conference with a 68-63 victory over Florida International on Saturday night.
Green’s shot gave the Blue Raiders (11-5, 5-0), who won their seventh consecutive game, a 65-62 lead and broke the fifth tie of the game, all of which came in the final 6:47.
It is the Blue Raiders’ best conference start since joining the Sun Belt in 2001-02.
Middle Tennessee led 50-36 with 10:41 remaining, but Florida International (6-12, 1-4) went on a 20-5 run that culminated with the Golden Panthers taking a 56-55 lead on Freddy Asprilla’s jumper with 5:15 remaining.
Nigel Johnson led Middle Tennessee with 15 points. Green and Montarrio Haddock added 14 points each.
Asprilla had 28 points and 10 rebounds, and Alex Galindo added 19 points.
