Tate’s 22 points help Iowa get past Indiana 65-60

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP)—Cyrus Tate scored a season-high 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Iowa held off Indiana 65-60 on Saturday, spoiling Hoosiers coach Tom Crean’s Big Ten debut.

Jeff Peterson chipped in with 16 points for the Hawkeyes, who improved to 9-0 at home despite nearly blowing a 13-point second-half lead.

Indiana went on a late 10-2 run to close within 62-60 with 22.4 seconds left. But Peterson hit two free throws and Andrew Brommer had a late steal to seal the win for Iowa (11-4, 1-1 Big Ten).

Nick Williams had 14 points to lead the Hoosiers (5-8, 0-1), who lost for the sixth time in seven games and fell to 0-3 on the road.

Indiana held Iowa without a field goal for nearly 6:30 and pulled within 50-44 with 8:56 left. The Hawkeyes jumped back ahead 60-50 with 4:08 left, but Williams keyed Indiana’s late rally with three baskets.

Devan Dumes added 12 points for Indiana, which started four freshmen.
