CHICAGO (AP)—Avery Smith and James Eayrs each scored 15 points to lead Wisconsin-Milwaukee to a 71-66 win over Illinois-Chicago Tuesday night.
Tone Boyle scored 14 points, Ricky Franklin added 13 and Tony Meier had 12 for Wisconsin-Milwaukee (7-5), which led 34-33 at the half.
The game was tied at 48 with 13:29 left when the Panthers went on a 6-0 run, capped by an Eayrs’ 3-pointer. He was 5-for-9 from 3-point range.
Illinois-Chicago (8-4) pulled to 65-64 with 1:49 left on a 3-pointer by Josh Mayo, but he missed two subsequent attempts. He was 4-for-12 from behind the arc.
The Panthers sank six free throws in the last 1:32 to seal the victory.
Mayo led Illinois-Chicago with 18 points. Scott Vandermeer scored 16, Robo Kreps added 11 and Jeremy Buttell chipped in 10.
