SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP)—Kevin Foster scored 22 of his career-high 24 points in the second half to help Santa Clara rally from an 18-point deficit to beat Belmont 83-80 in the first round of the Cable Car Classic on Monday night.
James Rahon added 15 points as the Broncos (6-7) snapped a three-game losing streak.
Matthew Dotson scored 18 points to lead the Bruins (5-5), who had won three of their past four games. Andy Wicke had 17 and Alex Renfroe added 16.
Foster and Rahon hit consecutive baskets to put the Broncos up 75-71 with just over five minutes remaining to play.
Foster scored 10 of his points as the Broncos scored the first 18 of the second half to tie it at 46-all.
The Bruins missed five shots and turned the ball over six times during a scoreless streak that lasted just over six minutes.
Belmont led at the half, 46-28.
