Sam Houston State beats Louisiana-Lafayette 56-54
LAFAYETTE, La. (AP)—Ashton Mitchell scored 11 points and had three assists in the last 10:33, including the game-winning jump shot with 3 seconds to go to lift Sam Houston State to a 56-54 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday night.
Mitchell scored 17 points for Sam Houston State (5-5), which trailed throughout most of the game before taking its second lead of the contest at 47-46 on a DeLuis Ramirez free throw with 3:55 to go.
After the Ragin’ Cajuns (4-6) tied the game at 52-all on two Tyren Johnson free throws with 49 seconds to play. Ramirez gave Sam Houston the lead once again 18 seconds later, but Ryan McCoy tied the game one final time at 54-54 with 23 seconds to play on a jump shot.
Corey Allmond also had 17 points for the Bearkats.
McCoy led Louisiana-Lafayette with 21 points and Johnson had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
