STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP)—Charles Jenkins scored 21 points to lead Hofstra to a 61-56 victory over Stony Brook on Wednesday night, the Pride’s seventh straight win.
Cornelius Vines added 13 points for Hofstra (7-1), which lost its season opener to Clemson in the Charleston Classic.
Demetrius Young had 21 points and Bryan Dougher added 11 for the Seawolves (5-4).
Tony Dennison’s 3-pointer 5 minutes into the game gave the Pride a 10-3 lead. After Stony Brook closed within two, Hofstra went on a 15-4 run that Jenkins closed with a jumper that made it 25-12 with 8:37 left in the half. The Pride led 37-26 at halftime and Stony Brook got no closer than the final margin.
The victory gives Hofstra an 18-4 lead in the series between the Long Island colleges.
