BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP)—Warren Edney’s 3-pointer with 3.7 seconds left lifted Fairfield over Iona 78-76 Sunday afternoon in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
The Gaels had taken their first lead of the second half, 76-75, on Jonathan Huffman’s 3-pointer from the left corner with 11.7 seconds remaining, before Edney countered at the other end with the game winner.
Jonathan Han led Fairfield (6-3, 2-0 MAAC) with 20 points and Edney added 17 as the Stags won their fifth straight. Anthony Johnson chipped in with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Devon Clarke led Iona (2-5, 0-2) with 24 points and Huffman added 13. Rashon Dwight had 10 for the Gaels, who played without leading scorer Gary Springer due to injury.
Fairfield, which led 40-31 at the intermission, hit just 8-of-14 free throws in the second half and 2-of-7 in the final 2:56, allowing Iona to stay in the game.
