St. Francis, Pa., beats St. Francis, NY, 69-65
LORETTO, Pa. (AP)—Devin Sweetney scored 19 points and Cale Nelson had 18 to lead St. Francis, Pa., to a 69-65 win over St. Francis, NY, on Saturday.
The Red Flash (4-5, 1-1 Northeast Conference) trailed 33-27 at the half but fought back by holding the Terriers (2-5, 1-1) to 36 percent shooting in the second half.
Sweetney sparked the second-half comeback with 12 points. His reverse layup with 11:26 to play gave the Red Flash a 45-43 lead, and they never trailed again.
Back-to-back buckets by Sweetney extended the margin to 59-52 with 3:22 to go. Nelson then hit five of six free throws in the final 21 seconds to seal the win.
Kayode Ayeni led the Terriers with 21 points, while Ricky Cadell and Rocco Rubino had 14 apiece.
Marquis Ford added 12 points for the Red Flash, which have beaten the Terriers five straight times.
