ELON, N.C. (AP)—Ola Atoyebi scored 20 points to lead Elon past The Citadel 56-54 on Saturday night.
The Citadel (5-4, 1-1 Southern Conference) cut the score to 51-50 on an Austin Dahn 3-pointer with 3:03 to play.
But the Phoenix (2-4, 1-1) pulled away on a 5-1 run. Devan Carter made a free throw, Chris Long scored on a jump shot and Monty Sanders added two free throws during the run.
Elon led by as many as eight points with 4:17 left to play, but the Bulldogs (5-4, 1-1) scored seven unanswered points to bring the score within one point on Dahn’s 3-pointer.
Demetrius Nelson and Dahn scored 14 points each for the Bulldogs, while Cameron Wells added 13.
