Aces beats Ball State 73-63 behind Holsinger’s 18

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP)—Jason Holsinger scored 18 points and Evansville maintained a double-digit lead from 5:11 left in the first half as the Purple Aces beat Ball State 73-63 Saturday.

Evansville (5-1) scored seven of the game’s first eight points and never trailed. The Aces reeled off seven straight points midway through the first half to go up 34-19 on Denver Holmes’ jumper with 4:37 left before the break. They led 41-26 at halftime.

Pieter van Tongeren’s layup gave Evansville its biggest lead, 45-26, just over a minute into the second half, and Ball State (4-3) never came closer than the final margin.

Anthony Newell had 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Cardinals. Brandon Lampley added 11 points and Malik Perry and Jarrod Jones had 10 each.

Nate Garner and Shy Ely added 12 points each for Evansville.
