TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP)—Alonzo Gee scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half as Alabama held off a furious Alabama A&M rally to win 64-56 on Tuesday night.
The Crimson Tide (4-2) led 47-36 with 13:31 left, but the Bulldogs (0-3) cut the lead to 56-54 with 2:22 left. After Alabama built the cushion to six points, two free throws by Cornelius Hester, who led Alabama A&M with a game-high 20 points, made the score 60-56 with 30 seconds left.
Alabama iced the win with four free throws.
Neither team shot well from the floor. The Crimson Tide made 19 of 56 shots (33.9 percent) and the Bulldogs shot 20 of 68 (29.4 percent.)
Senario Hillman and Ronald Steele added 11 points apiece for Alabama and Casey Cantey chipped in 13 for Alabama A&M.
The Crimson Tide led 32-16 with 4:50 left in the first half, but the Bulldogs scored the final 11 points of the half.
