FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP)—Derrick O’Neil had 27 points and nine rebounds as Florida Gulf Coast University rallied for a 60-55 win over Florida Atlantic on Monday night.
Florida Gulf Coast (2-4) outscored Florida Atlantic (3-5) by a 12-2 margin in the last 5:10 to come back from a 53-48 deficit. The Owls were scoreless from the 5:10 mark until 8.1 seconds remained.
Kyle Marks and Reed Baker added nine points for Florida Gulf Coast, which won despite hitting just 19 of 47 shots (40.4 percent) and 1 of 7 3-pointers. The Eagles also were outrebounded 37-30.
Alex Tucker had 10 points for the Owls while Brett Royster added nine points and 10 rebounds. The Owls were 1 of 9 from 3-point range.
Florida Atlantic led 30-28 at halftime despite trailing 16-8 at one point.
