ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP)—Patrick Mills scored 21 points, Diamon Simpson added 12 points and a career-high 17 rebounds, and Saint Mary’s beat Cal State Fullerton 79-54 on Friday in the 76 Classic.
Omar Samhan added 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Gaels (4-1).
Josh Akognon scored 24 points for Cal State-Fullerton (2-4), which shot a season-low 34.5 percent in losing its third straight game. Marcio Lassiter added 12 points for the Titans.
Saint Mary’s used a 14-0 run to build a 66-43 lead with 10 1/2 minutes remaining, and wasn’t threatened after that. Mills and Wayne Hunter each scored five points in the run, with Fullerton scoring only one point in a span of 5:11.
The Gaels will play for fifth place and the Titans will play for seventh place when the tournament finishes on Sunday.
