BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP)—A.D. Vassallo and Victor Davilo scored 16 points apiece, and Malcolm Delaney hit 12 free throws in the final 2:12 to help Virginia Tech defeat Elon 76-67 on Wednesday night.
The Hokies (4-2) led 34-27 at halftime, but Elon (1-3) scored the first five points of the second half.
The Phoenix surged into the lead at 44-42 on a Chris Long 3-pointer with 12:52 remaining. With the score tied at 50, the Hokies went on a 10-3 run to build a cushion.
Delaney, who scored his first points on a 3-pointer with 17:03 remaining, was 12-for-12 as the Hokies tallied their final 14 points of the game from the free-throw line. Hank Thorns also chipped in two free throws for Virginia Tech during that stretch.
Brett James led Elon with 19 points and Ola Atoyebi added 18.
