Illinois rolls past Jackson St. 78-64

Preview | Box Score | Recap

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP)—Mike Davis tied a career high with 20 points and Dominque Keller added 16 to lead Illinois past Jackson State 78-64 on Sunday.

Illinois (4-0) built its lead in transition, putting together numerous scoring runs by turning defensive rebounds and turnovers into quick scoring chances by beating the Tigers (0-3) down the floor.

Jackson State couldn’t keep pace with the athleticism of Davis. The sophomore forward made his first seven shots of the game, scoring 16 of his game-high 20 in the first half to help the Illini to a 44-30 lead at the half.

Jeremy Caldwell and Darrion Griffin lead the Tigers with 17 and 14 points, respectively.

Trent Meacham added 10 points for the Illini in their second of four games in the South Padre Island Invitational. Illinois will play Kent State on Friday at South Padre Island, Texas in the third round of the invitational.
