RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP)—Javon Borum scored six of his game-high 21 points in the final 1:10 as UC Riverside defeated Northern Arizona 59-52 Saturday afternoon.
With the Highlanders up 51-49, Borum followed a Brandon Dowdy steal with a lay up, then made four free throws down the stretch to help UC Riverside improve to 2-1 and move over the .500 mark for just the fourth time since moving to Division I in 2002.
Aaron Scott had 12 points and 14 rebounds and Sean Cunningham added 10 points for UCR.
Cameron Jones led Northern Arizona (1-3) with 14 points. Shane Johannsen was the only other Lumberjack in double figures, scoring 10 to go with his team-high eight rebounds.
Neither team shot well, as UCR made just 44 percent of its shots, and 52 percent of its free throws and NAU made 42 percent from the field and 47 percent from the line.
Riverside had a 41-28 advantage in rebounds.
