CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands (AP)—Milan Prodanovic hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points, leading Iona to a decisive 75-55 victory over Valparaiso on Saturday night at the Paradise Jam.
Gary Springer added 12 points and four rebounds for the Gaels (2-1) in a balanced attack against the Crusaders, who were held to 28.8 percent shooting by Iona’s stingy defense.
The Gaels went into halftime leading 33-15 and never looked back.
Iona outrebounded Valpo 44-28 and scored 14 points on fast breaks. The winning team scored 22 of its points in the paint.
The Crusaders (2-2) were led by De’Andre Haskins, who scored 19 points and snared six rebounds. In a bright spot for Valpo, 18 of their points were scored off of turnovers compared to eight for the Gaels.
The Gaels will next take on Southern Mississippi at the University of the Virgin Islands tournament. Valpo will play La Salle.
