Brown upsets Holy Cross 62-57
WORCESTER, Mass. (AP)—Adrian Williams of Brown scored 16 points, including 5 in a second-half run, to lead Brown to a 62-57 upset of Holy Cross on Wednesday.
Freshman guard R.J. Evans scored a pair of field goals to put Holy Cross ahead, 49-45 with 6:23 remaining. But Williams scored a jumper and Chris Skrelja got a 3-pointer to put Brown (1-2) ahead, 50-49.
Matt Mullery, who led Brown with a game-high 18, scored two free throws. Williams followed with a 3-pointer, and Scott Friske added a layup for a 57-49 lead.
Colin Cunningham, who led Holy Cross with 11 points, then scored for the Crusaders. But Mullery made two free throws and Skrelja added one for an insurmountable 60-51 edge with 1:09 left.
Holy Cross (2-1) led 31-27 at halftime. The Crusaders had their largest lead of 20-12 with 7:07 left in the first half. But Williams shot a 3-pointer and then made a free throw to narrow the margin.
