PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP)—Marshon Brooks scored 18 points and Brian McKenzie and Randall Hanke collected nine rebounds each to lead Providence past Dartmouth 100-82 on Tuesday night.
Alex Barnett scored a game-high 28 points for the Big Green, who shot 46.2 percent from beyond the arc. But Six Friars reached double-digit scoring as Providence (1-1) narrowly outshot Dartmouth (0-2) 44.9 percent to 41.4 percent.
The Friars led from start to finish, opening the game on a 19-5 run capped by a Weyinmi Efejuku (WAY’-mee ehf-eh-JOO’-koo) slam dunk that earned the senior his 1,000th point as a Friar. Providence outmuscled Dartmouth inside and forced sloppy passes all night as they outrebounded the Big Green, 53-33.
The win was Providence Head Coach Keno Davis’s first with the Friars, who lost their season-opener on Saturday to Northeastern.
