Mitchell leads Cincinnati past Texas Southern
CINCINNATI (AP)—Alvin Mitchell scored a career-high 15 points, and Deonta Vaughn added 12 points, six assists and five rebounds to lead Cincinnati to an easy 82-51 victory against Texas Southern on Tuesday at Fifth Third Arena.
From the beginning, Texas Southern (0-2) was no match for UC (2-0). The Tigers missed eight of their first nine shots and fell behind 21-5 nine minutes into the game.
Texas Southern, which has yet to win under coach Tony Harvey, was led by DeAndre Hall’s career-high 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting. Michael Drewy notched 11 points and seven rebounds.
The Bearcats’ Yancy Gates struggled in the second contest of his career after making a strong rookie debut with 16 points and 11 rebounds against South Dakota State on Sunday. He left Tuesday’s game with 12:58 to play in the first half after recording his second foul, finishing with three points and four rebounds in 11 minutes.
