NEWARK, N.J. (AP)—Jeremy Hazell scored 21 points—including four 3-pointers— to lead Seton Hall to a 71-50 win over Columbia on Sunday.
Eugene Harvey added 12 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and three steals for the Pirates (2-0), while John Garcia had 11 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds. Patrick Foley had 10 points for the Lions (1-1), who made just 34.5 percent of their shots.
The teams traded baskets for most of the first half, with the Pirates holding a 34-27 lead at the break. Seton Hall, though, took command with an 11-0 run to start the second half and held double-digit leads for the rest of the game.
Seton Hall also had a strong defensive performance, recording nine steals and forcing 16 turnovers. The Pirates also outrebounded Columbia 46-34.
