Carter leads balanced Stony Brook to win

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP)—Dan Carter had 11 points to lead Stony Brook to a season-opening 60-44 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Friday night.

Demetrius Young and Bryan Dougher each added 10 points for Patriots, who led the entire game. Tommy Brenton had eight points and 16 rebounds for Stony Brook.

Neal Pitt had 14 points for the Hawks (0-1). Chris Connor and Keishawn Mayes each had 12.

Jonathan Moore scored five points in an 8-0 run that gave the Patriots a 15-6 lead on the way to being up 30-25 at halftime.

Dallis Joyner had six points in a 12-3 run that gave Stony Brook a 57-40 lead.
