KINGSTON, R.I. (AP)—Jimmy Baron scored 17 points in the second half to help Rhode Island overcome a late five-point deficit to topple in-state rival Brown 76-74 Friday night.
In a second half with seven lead changes, the Rams narrowed the Bears’ 64-59 advantage with a 7-0 spurt. Kahiem Seawright hit a pair of free throws with 5:08 left before Baron scored on a long three that tied the game at 64. With 3:14 left, Seawright took a long pass and finished with a dunk to give the Rams the lead for good.
The Bears’ Matt Mullery led all scorers with a career-high 22 points. Peter Sullivan added 15 and Adrian Williams 13.
Keith Cochrane scored 16 for Rhode Island. Seawright had 15 points and 8 rebounds.
Brown, shooting 50 percent from the floor for the game, led by as many as nine points twice in the first half and 33-29 at intermission.
