GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP)—Ed Jones scored 21 points to lead North Carolina A&T to an 82-36 win over the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Jones shot 9-for-13 from the field, and also recorded two blocks.
Robert Johnson chipped in for the Aggies (1-0) with 12 points and five rebounds. Thomas Coleman grabbed nine rebounds to lead the team.
Merchant Marine (0-1) was led by Chad Ray, who scored nine points. Merchant Marine played all 15 of their players in the contest.
The Aggies shot 50 percent from the field on 30-for-59 shooting. Merchant Marine, on the other hand, struggled offensively, shooting 23.1 percent.
A layup from Coleman with 9:36 remaining in the first half broke a 12-12 tie. The Aggies never trailed again, and took a 33-13 lead into the half.
