Quinnipiac beats Hartford 63-62

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP)—James Feldeine finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds as Quinnipiac defeated Hartford 63-62 in Friday night’s season opener.

Justin Rutty also had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Bobcats.

Hartford led until Bryan Geffen’s 3-pointer put the Bobcats up 60-58 with 1:52 remaining. Jaret von Rosenberg tied it at 60 with 1:31 left, but Quinnipiac’s DeAndre Bynum hit an open 3 on the next possession.

Michael Turner made two free throws with 46 seconds left to bring Hartford within one. Von Rosenberg’s defensive rebound gave the Hawks the ball with under 20 seconds to go. But Rutty blocked Joe Zeglinski’s layup as time ran out.

Turner led Hartford with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Anthony Minor had 11 points, and Von Rosenberg had 10 points and 6 assists.

Geffen had 7 points and 4 assists for Quinnipiac.
