NEW YORK (AP)—Asenso Ampim’s layup with 41 seconds to play broke the game’s final tie and Columbia went on to a 65-62 victory over Fordham on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
After a miss by Fordham, Pat Foley, who led Lions with 18 points, made one of two free throws in the final seconds to complete the scoring.
Jason Miller added 12 points and 15 rebounds for Columbia.
Freshman Trey Blue led the Rams with 24 points.
Fordham took a 57-52 lead on a layup by Blue with 6:05 to play, but the Lions responded with eight straight points to go up 60-57 on two free throws by Miller with 2:56 to go.
Chris Bethel’s 3-pointer tied it at 62-62 with 59 seconds left.
