CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP)—Nick Murphy had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead Jacksonville State to an 86-83 victory over Southeast Missouri on Saturday night in the last game of the season for both teams.
Jonathan Toles scored 15 points, Will Ginn had 13 and Erik Adams and DeAndre Bray added 12 apiece for the Gamecocks (7-22, 5-15 Ohio Valley).
Kenard Moore scored 23 points for Southeast Missouri (12-19, 7-13). David Johnson scored a season-high 17 and Michael Rembert added 13.
Jacksonville led by as many as 15 in the first half, but the Redhawks battled back to gain their first lead, 54-53, about 6 minutes into the second half.
After the Gamecocks regained the lead, the Redhawks came within one with 30 seconds left but missed four of their last five free throws.
Southeast Missouri scored 29 points off 21 Jacksonville turnovers and outscored the Gamecocks 39-18 off the bench but made just 14 of 26 free throws. The Gamecocks were 21-of-27 from the free throw line.
Southeast Missouri began the season at 6-0 in conference play but lost 13 of its last 14 games, including the final eight, to finish ninth in the 11-team conference.
Jacksonville finished the season tied for last in the Ohio Valley.
