Middle Tennessee defeats Troy State 81-58
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP)—Kevin Kanaskie shot 22 points and four other Middle Tennessee State players scored in double figures as the Blue Raiders beat Troy State 81-58 Saturday.
Middle Tennessee (14-14, 11-7 Sun Belt Conference) jumped out on top of Troy (11-18, 4-14) on a 3-pointer by Nigel Johnson and a jumper by Kanaskie on their first two possessions of the game.
The Blue Raiders led 49-34 at the break and were up by as many as 17 in the second half.
The Trojans shot just 37.8 (17-of-45) percent from the floor and 26.9 (7-of-26) percent from behind the arc.
Middle Tennessee was 63.3 (31-of-49) percent from the floor and 45 (9-of-20) percent from behind the arc.
Kanaskie was 8-of-11 shooting from the floor. Johnson added 14 points, Desmond Yates and Theryn Hudson had 13 each and Demetrius Green scored 11 points. Yates also grabbed eight rebounds.
O’ Darien Bassett led Troy with 19 points, while Jerome Odem and Justin Jonus added 12 each in the loss.
