Northern Iowa rallies to beat Evansville 71-68
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP)—Adam Koch scored 20 points to help Northern Iowa rally for a 71-68 win over Evansville Saturday night.
Koch sank 10-of-13 free throws, including a couple in the game’s final seconds to help secure the win. He also scored 20 points in a January win over Evansville.
Evansville (9-20, 3-15) led by as many as seven points in the first half despite hitting only 38 percent of its field goals, and the Purple Aces went into halftime with a 34-32 lead.
But Northern Iowa (17-13, 9-9) took a 35-34 lead early in the second half on an Eric Coleman layup. The Panthers then stayed in the lead for most of the final half.
Coleman scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Northern Iowa, while Jared Josten handed out seven assists and Travis Brown had 14 points.
Darin Granger led Evansville with 26 points, and Shy Ely had 18 points and eight rebounds.
The Panthers outrebounded the Purple Aces and also outscored them 28-18 in the paint.
