AKRON, Ohio (AP)—Cedrick Middleton scored 20 points and Akron pulled away down the stretch to beat Buffalo 76-56 on Saturday night.
Nick Dials added 17 points and Jeremiah Wood had 10 for the Zips (20-8, 10-4 Mid-American Conference). They never trailed after the Wood hit a layup at the 14:45 mark of the first half.
Greg Gamble had 19 points, Jawaan Alston 11 and Max Boudreau 10 for the Bulls (9-18, 2-12).
The Zips led just 33-29 at the half and built their advantage to 12 points before Buffalo made one last run with a 6-0 burst that cut the deficit to 54-49 on Gamble’s jumper with 7:59 left.
But Middleton answered with two 3-pointers and the lead never dropped below nine points again.
