Hollis, Diggs lead George Washington past Richmond in 59-53 win

WASHINGTON (AP) -Rob Diggs had 18 of his 20 points in the first half and Damian Hollis ignited a second half run as George Washington upset Richmond 59-53 Saturday in an Atlantic 10 conference game.

The Spiders led 40-33 with 12:37 left before Hollis scored eight points, all from the foul line, in a 16-0 run that gave the Colonials a 49-40 lead.

Hollis had 16 points and made all 10 free throws for George Washington (8-14, 4-8), who have won six straight games against Richmond. The Colonials have won two straight games for the first time since starting the season 2-0.

Kevin Anderson had 12 points and David Gonzalvez added 11 for the Spiders (14-11, 7-5), who began the day tied for second in the conference.

Hollis fouled out with 1:18 left on a drive to the basket by Gonzalvez, whose two free throws pulled the Spiders to within 53-51.

But Cheyenne Moore of GW hit five free throws in the closing 67 seconds as the Colonials won despite missing all 12 3-point attempts. George Washington trailed 32-25 at halftime but took its first lead of the game at 41-40 on two free throws by Hollis midway through the second half.

The Colonials had won the previous five games against Richmond by an average of 16 points per game.
