Johnson’s 3-point shooting leads Delaware St. past Coppin St.
BALTIMORE (AP)—Donald Johnson went 6-for-9 from 3-point range and scored 22 points to lead Delaware State past Coppin State 56-48 on Saturday.
Jue Dickens and Marcus Neal added 11 points apiece for the Hornets (8-11, 5-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who built a 19-point second-half lead before allowing the Eagles back into the game.
Antwan Harrison scored 16 points to lead Coppin State (4-19, 0-8), which lost its sixth straight.
Delaware State never trailed and led 29-20 at halftime. Three-pointers from Johnson and Neal pushed the Hornets’ lead to 35-20 with 18:17 remaining, and Terrence Parkes hit two free throws with 12:26 left to extend the lead to 45-26.
Coppin State rallied behind Harrison, who scored six straight points to ignite a 15-0 run that cut the Delaware State lead to 45-41 with 7:29 left.
Neal responded with a 3-pointer, and the Eagles got no closer than six points the rest of the way.
