Shubik scores 20 as Sacred Heart edges out Quinnipiac 75-74
FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP)—Drew Shubik scored 20 points and converted on several clutch free throws down the stretch as Sacred Heart secured a 75-74 win over Quinnipiac on Saturday.
Shubik earned two game-clinching points with 0:25 left on the clock as DeMario Anderson’s last-second jump shot attempt for Quinnipiac did not succeed.
Anderson led all scorers with 30 points and also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for the Bobcats (10-9, 6-2). However, it wasn’t enough to help Quinnipiac capitalize on a Sacred Heart (11-10, 8-2) field goal drought of 4:12 to end the game.
Trailing 55-48 with 10:38 left, the Bobcats went on an 11-2 run and secured a back-and-forth affair in the waning minutes.
After Sacred Heart led 36-27 at halftime, it built a 47-37 lead once Shubik converted on a layup. He was 6-of-10 from the floor and 7-of-10 from the free throw line.
Anderson and Justin Rutty kept the Bobcats afloat as Quinnipiac out-rebounded the Pioneers 37-28 in the game, which featured 12 ties and 14 lead changes.
Ryon Howard contributed nine points and eight rebounds, while Corey Hassan had 12 points for the Pioneers.
Karl Anderson added 11 rebounds for Quinnipiac.
