NORFOLK, Va. (AP)—Eric Maynor and Jamal Shuler each scored 26 points to lead Virginia Commonwealth to a 78-68 win over Old Dominion on Saturday.
The pair finished with a double-double as VCU (14-4, 6-1 Colonial Athletic Association) won for the 10th time in 11 games. Shuler had 11 rebounds while Maynor had 10 assists.
Maynor hit three 3-pointers in the first seven minutes to help stake VCU to a 19-6 lead.
VCU led by 15 at halftime. Maynor made two free throws and the Rams tied their biggest lead, 64-45, with 5:15 remaining. Old Dominion then went on a 19-5 run to cut the deficit to 69-64 with 1:39 left.
But Shuler and Maynor scored seven of VCU’s final nine points to preserve the win.
Gerald Lee scored 15 points and Brian Henderson added 13 for Old Dominion (9-10, 4-3).
