SE Louisiana beats Sam Houston St. 61-58 in league opener
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP)—Kevyn Green scored 15 points and Chris Cyprian hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with just over a minute to play as Southeastern Louisiana beat Sam Houston State 61-58 Wednesday night in the Southland Conference opener for both teams.
Sam Houston led by as many as 11 points midway through the first half but Southeastern Louisiana battled back and was down by only a point, 29-28, at halftime.
The lead changed nine times in the second half before Green hit a free throw to tie the game at 57-57 with 2:14 to play. Cyprian’s 3-pointer put Southeastern Louisiana ahead and the Lions held off the Bearkats in the final seconds.
Patrick Sullivan added 10 points for Southeastern Louisiana (9-5, 1-0).
DeLuis Ramirez led Sam Houston (12-2, 0-1) with 14 points. Ryan Bright added 13 points and 12 rebounds.
The Lions shot 44 percent from the field to 36 percent for the Bearkats.
It was Sam Houston’s first home loss of the season.
