Oliver’s 16 points leads UC Davis to 58-54 win over UC Riverside
DAVIS, Calif. (AP)—Vince Oliver’s 16 points and four rebounds gave UC Davis its first-ever Big West Conference victory Friday, a 58-54 win over UC Riverside.
Shane Hanson added 12 points and two blocked shots, and Mark Payne had six points, six rebounds and four assists for the Aggies (7-7, 1-0).
Sean Cunningham had 22 points, four rebounds and four assists for the Highlanders (3-10, 0-2).
The Aggies were ahead 47-37 in the second half before the Highlanders came back to cut the lead 53-52 on a lay up by Sean Cunningham at the 1:29 mark. When the Highlanders missed shots and committed costly turnovers, the Aggies finished with a key basket by Ryan Silva and two free throws by Nathan Clark with 19.3 seconds left in the game.
UC Davis had its biggest lead in the first half when Payne made a 22-foot jump shot to make the score 29-15 with 2:16 left. The Aggies led 31-22 at halftime.
