Bennett leads South Alabama to 75-61 win over Middle Tennessee
MOBILE, Ala. (AP)—Demetric Bennett scored a game-high 24 points to lead South Alabama to a 75-61 victory over Middle Tennessee.
He also became the 13th player in school history to score 1,000 career points on Saturday night.
The Jaguars improved to 9-3, 2-0 with the win and equaled the 1983-84 team for the most wins in school history before Christmas.
Brandon Davis added 20 points and eight rebounds while Domonic Tilford chipped in 13 points.
South Alabama seized control of the game in the final five minutes of the first half.
Middle Tennessee (4-7, 1-1) trailed 16-15 when Ronald Douglas connected on a layup with 5:16 remaining to ignite a 14-5 run and send South Alabama into the half ahead 30-20.
Josh Sain scored a career-high 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting and equaled Desmond Yates for team-high honors for the Blue Raiders.
Middle Tennessee’s Nigel Johnson scored 10 points and Demetrius Green finished with nine.
