MIAMI, Fla. (AP)—Dre Smith had a team high 21 points as George Mason beat Florida International 86-68 Friday night.
George Mason (8-3) started the game on a 9-0 run, holding the Golden Panthers (3-7) scoreless for the first three-and-a-half minutes.
The closest Florida International got was 32-29 on a layup by Tremayne Russell with 3:55 left in the half. George Mason took a 39-31 lead into halftime.
Smith was 5 of 7 from behind the arc for the Patriots (8-3). Will Thomas added 20 points, making 6 of 9 field goals and 8 of 12 free throws.
The Golden Panthers lost their fourth straight game. Russell Hicks led Florida International with 21 points.
